Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council

Duties:  The AAA Advisory Council duties are to serve in an advisory capacity to the AAA Division regarding AAA programs and services. Members of the council are advocates for older adults and help to ensure the AAA is providing resources and services that best serve the needs of the older adult population residing in the Rio Grande service region.

Composition: Council membership shall be comprised of eighteen (18) members as follows:

  • At least 50% of the membership should be persons 60 years of age and older
  • Family Caregivers
  • Service Providers
  • Members of the Business Community
  • Local Elected Officials
  • General Public
  • Aging Services Providers who serve as liaisons (with no voting privileges) participate because of their special knowledge or experience in aging services

Seats: 18 Council Members

Term:  Once a membership is approved by the Rio Grande Council of Governments Board of Directors, Council members may continue to serve as they see fit. The Council annually elects a Chair and Vice-Chair for a one year term, with the option of serving a second-year term.
